DISTINGUISHED AUSTRALIAN ORGANIST JOHN ATWELL VISITS SALTAIRE - FROM DOWN UNDER TO UP NORTH! John Atwell, a distinguished internationally renowned organist with a career spanning several decades, brings his unique flair and expertise to Saltaire for a performance that promises to be unforgettable. Known for his dynamic playing style and deep understanding of the theatre organ repertoire, Dr. Atwell has delighted audiences across the globe. In that time he has developed a reputation for providing programmes, whether in concert or on recordings, which are carefully put together to provide a variety of enjoyable music, with a balance between the familiar and sometimes the not so well known. His playing style is not easily pigeonholed, but reflects the diversity of his musical experience. His programme will be one of broad musical variety, drawing on selections from the stage and screen as well as music from the pen of Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse .There will also be selections from the pen of Duke Ellington and Benny Goodman, as well as a special tribute to the musical collaborations of the famed lyricist, Johnny Mercer. To round out the variety, there will be selections with a Viennese flavour from the pen of Fritz Kreisler and Johann Strauss snr, as well as a few further selections to get your foot tapping. John Atwell’s ability to breathe new life into both classic and contemporary pieces makes this concert a must-see for all music enthusiasts. There will be delicious refreshments to purchase, served at your seat, before the show, and in the interval when you can also go down below the stage and see nearly 1000 pipes and percussions in the organ chambers.
