The Odd Couple (Female Version) (11 Apr 2024 - 20 Apr 2024)

Play

This event has ended.

This hilarious comedy classic has not lost any of its original humour as a group of now women meet for their regular Trivial Pursuits games night in Olive’s New York apartment. The women know each other well and whilst they tease each other mercilessly they only have each other’s best interests at heart, so when Florence arrives late to the game, upset because her husband has thrown her out, the girls close rank.

Olive invites Florence to move in for what turns out to be the most incompatible flat share. Florence tidies and cleans the flat within an inch of its life and to say this irritates a slovenly Olive, is an understatement. Olive decides that she and Florence need to move forward with their lives so invites the neighbours, who she describes as the “sexiest men she has ever seen” round for what turns out to be an hilarious encounter with two Spanish brothers.

The evening descends into chaos due to the language barrier and burnt dinners!

Celebrate all that is 80s with this satirical triumph of fun and laughter.

“Olive, I want to thank you for the two greatest things you ever did for me. Taking me in and kicking me out!”

Many of you will know that Neil Simon had great success back in the 60s with his play and film, The Odd Couple. The latter featured the stellar performances of  Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon and a long-running TV series with Jack Klugman and Tony Randall followed in the 70s. What you may not know is that in 1985 Simon rewrote the play for a primarily female cast and it’s this rewrite that we are performing.
