Image of Love Song

Abi Morgan's play takes one relationship and visits it at its beginning, its end, and at points in-between. It intertwines a couple in their 20s with the same man and woman a lifetime later. Love Song is split between a young William/ Margaret and the older Billy/ Maggie, depicting the highs and lows of a relationship. The story of one couple's enduring but far from perfect relationship gradually emerges, which survives issues that affect them both profoundly but differently. At times an older Billy directs dialogue at a younger Margaret, and vice versa. Each pair of actors almost always only interacts with each other, but all four are frequently on stage at the same time: the end of one scene overlaps with the next and time is fluid and melting.
