Switched On
Exhibition
Saturday, 23 July 2022 to Sunday, 1 January 2023

From the first radio microphones to colour TV, on-demand video and streaming, our new exhibition explores how and why the world of broadcasting has changed over the last 100 years. Get involved and have a go at subtitling or work together to create your own community radio station. Find out more about trailblazers like DJ Lepke, David Attenborough and Annie Wallace who helped make and shape the broadcast revolution. And discover how innovations in technology have brought us closer to the action, creating shared moments and experiences for generations. Then leave the screens behind and step through a portal for a glimpse into the future! In our playful interactive space, you’ll get a chance to look at how we might use tech and experience content in the not-so-distant future. In our ever-changing world, the way we connect with and consume entertainment and information is constantly evolving. Visit Switched On and discover the history of broadcasting, the latest ideas and what’s next. Switched On is part of Broadcast 100, a bumper year of exhibitions and events across the Science Museum Group to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the BBC and the 40th anniversary of Channel 4.
