A small selection of artworks and social history items from the gallery and museum collections portraying people of Bradford, celebrating the district’s talents and inspiration. With links to glass designer Kalim Afzal and Manningham based photographer Nudrat Afza and of course, David Hockney. From innovators such as Titus Salt, Christopher Pratt and the Bronte sisters to reformists Miriam Lord, Margaret Macmillan and Richard Oastler, visit this display of Bradford’s history and talent. The exhibition showcases the reactionary strength, , forward thinking and challenging inspiration of the people of Bradford. There will be on display a selection of watercolour Bradford street characters and dignitaries of the Victorian period, by John Sowden. A large selection of the Sowden images can be purchased online. We Are West Yorkshire: A Celebration of people and place We Art West Yorkshire brings together five new exhibitions from the county’s local authority museums. Each exhibition celebrates some of the different qualities that make West Yorkshire so unique, as well as showcasing the amazing richness and variety of our museum collections. Castleford will look at the history and impact of Rugby League – the sport which was born in West Yorkshire. Halifax will bring together some amazing art inspired by our county. Huddersfield will explore the lives of women from the region up until 1918. Leeds will showcase the stories and experiences of migrants to the city throughout history. We hope you will enjoy exploring this kaleidoscopic tribute to our county.

Cartwright Hall Art Gallery is in the middle of Lister Park, one and a half miles from the City Centre on the A650 Manningham Lane. There is limited parking in Lister Park, accessible from North Park Road (off Oak Lane). Lister Park is served by many city centre bus services including 23, 25, 26, 49, 51, 52, 53, 54, 622, 647, 662, w5. Cartwright Hall is about ten minutes' uphill walk from Frizinghall railway station.

Bradford Museums and Galleries are proud to announce the introduction of AppEar; a new system to help the visually impaired explore our collections. This year we have been working closely with RNIB and Bradford Talking Media to develop the use of the audio PenFriend devices, which are already widely used within the visually impaired community. Visitors can now borrow a PenFriend from our reception desk to hear visual descriptions of the surrounding displays.
